Sennheiser jazzes up the star-studded Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival

Sounds of wild cheering applause interjected with every awe-inspiring solo passage and endless requests for encores – the annual Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival 2011 held at the Jakarta International Expo from 4 to 6 March had certainly mesmerised jazz fans and lived up to its billing as one of the most important stops in Asia’s jazz calendar. This year, the three-day festival extravaganza featured more than 280 artistes from 14 countries. Highlights among the 173 shows included scintillating performances by internationally renowned artists Carlos Santana, George Benson, Corinne Bailey Rae, Fourplay and George Duke, among the 109 international and local artistes/groups.

To ensure that audiences enjoyed every moment of the soaring vocals, electrifying guitar fretwork and pulsating drumming, the festival’s lead rental company, Sumber Ria, partnered with Sennheiser Asia and the Sennheiser Global Relations Team, represented by Vince Tan. They deployed 34 channels of wireless microphones, monitoring systems, antenna systems and evolution 900 series wired instrument microphones on site. Wireless microphones included the evolution wireless SKM 935-965 G3, SKM 2000 and SKM 5200 handheld transmitters. The fabled EM 3732 twin receivers and SR 300 IEM monitoring transmitters were installed to ensure first-rate reliable RF transmission with all the Sennheiser handheld and bodypack transmitters and wireless monitors used on stage. “From a technical standpoint, it was a tremendous experience for Sennheiser to support and complement the technical crew at Java Jazz Festival in delivering cutting-edge microphone technology, while from an artistic standpoint, the festival programming is truly world-class with its high-quality, multi-genre artist line-up. We are delighted to be part of this landmark festival,” expressed Ng Chee Soon, President and Managing Director of Sennheiser Electronic Asia.

Reflecting on the deployment of Sennheiser microphone technology for the festival, Ms. Dewi A.L. Gontha, President Director of PT Java Festival Production, the Java Jazz Festival organizer, commented, “We are pleased to have Sennheiser Asia on board as an esteemed technical partner for the inaugural year. Their core competency and in-depth insights in microphone technology was a driving force in ensuring the seamless workflow of our production team during the festival.”

Apart from products, a specially built brand booth, which showcased Sennheiser’s illustrious heritage and ever-growing network of global artists, greeted festival goers on-site. It offered glimpses of the Sennheiser brand story, and gave visitors the opportunity to sample the range of Sennheiser headphones on display and collect Sennheiser souvenir memorabilia. As of press time, the eighth edition of the Java Jazz Festival is scheduled to take place from 2 to 4 March 2012.
