A SUCCESSOR IN EXCELLENCE AND NAME

Sennheiser HE 1 now bears the name ‘Orpheus’ in Europe

Sennheiser has renamed its audiophile flagship model: The Sennheiser HE 1 will now be known as ‘Orpheus’ in Europe, continuing the legacy of its iconic predecessor, the Orpheus HE 90/HEV 90 launched in 1990/1991.

In the early 1990s, Sennheiser took the audio world by storm with the Orpheus – an
engineering masterpiece that eliminated all previous ideas about the performance limitations of headphones. The electrostatic headphone system became an icon of the audio industry and was recognized as the best headphones in the world – until 2015. In the company’s 70th anniversary year, Sennheiser presented the successor to the legendary Orpheus, a new reference headphone system that delivers an unprecedented audio experience. Initially introduced under its model name HE 1 only, the electrostatic headphone system has now been given the same name as its illustrious predecessor: Orpheus. “In terms of audio excellence, the HE 1 continues the legacy of the original Orpheus. Therefore, we are delighted that it will now bear its name too”, said Axel Grell, Portfolio Manager Audiophile at Sennheiser.

The second Orpheus generation represents a unique combination of meticulous engineering skills and technological brilliance. The result: an unprecedented sound experience with the ultimate in reproduction precision and unique spatiality. To achieve its incomparably natural and precise sound, the headphone system uses a new amplifier concept that combines the superior impulse processing of a tube amplifier with the low distortion of a transistor amplifier.

With its unique transducer system, the Orpheus has a frequency response of 8 hertz to more than 100 kilohertz. This is a frequency range which far exceeds the limits of human hearing ability. At one kilohertz and a sound pressure level of 100 decibels, the total harmonic distortion of the headphone system is a mere 0.01 percent, which means it reproduces the sound of the audio source with greater fidelity and in more detail than any other product in the audio world. The Orpheus is manufactured at Sennheiser’s headquarters in Wedemark, Germany and is available from 50,000 EUR.
